You may buy clothes or food with confidence, but how do you feel when it comes to buying technology?

Discussion Points

  1. Thanks to the internet, you have many more buying choices than ever before.
But how do you sort your preferences?
And how do you prioritize benefits and features, at least some of which you don't even understand?
  2. You can educate yourself considerably.
Of course that takes time, which you may not have in abundance.
And research skills, which may or may not be your forté.
You may also need to learn some new words in the process too.
Always ask for testimonials. Find out what it's really like to work with a particular vendor.
  3. Price information is readily available.
Are you buying a commodity or not?
How do you know when to buy for price (all else is equal) or when to buy for quality? (When ROI is important.)
We don't think a business web site that is going to produce results should be considered a commodity purchase.
  4. What's your buying style?
If you are fussy and care about all the little details, a custom project may be better suited to your personality.
If you just want the job done right, without having to give it a lot of attention, a pre-packaged plan may be the right answer.
Custom costs more, but if it suits you better, you are much more likely to be happy with the results.
